Drawing with scissors

Thanks to the Museum in the Park in Stroud for hosting this wonderful workshop, inspired by the “paper mosaicks” of Mrs. Delaney and the beautiful Walled Garden at the museum.

I recently ran this workshop with a lovely group of enthusiastic and talented people. I banned the use of pencils as I didn’t want the participants to worry about accurate botanical-style illustrations. My aim was to concentrate on the shapes, colours and textures of the foliage. Each element was studied in detail and stuck down to the black background. When the pieces were finished there was great satisfaction (and some pleasant surprise!) that they all came together so beautifully.
